You Throw Like A Girl
"You Throw Like A Girl"...you may have heard that phrase 25 years ago from the gym class jerk. However, today you may hear one of your daughters using that same jab on your son or one of her male teammates. Lots has changed in the world of participation sports. Thanks in part to Title IX, this is the generation of coed participation sports. Boys and girls growing up playing on the same little league and soccer teams.
A generational result of "Play Dates" has ramped up participation of the endurance events, road races, zombie runs, triathlons, etc. Basically events where teams of participants (Mostly Millennial's) train and compete together. It's where social media, businesses/personal relationships, entertainment and competition blend together within an exploding industry.
It has been proven that participation in youth sports results in future consumers of a sport, especially with females. One only has to look at number of females attending professional and college football, soccer and basketball. The numbers are about 50-50. What we see now is a true zest for programming where there is an equal playing field, this is a generation of athletic kids who are spending their entertainment dollars on not just booze, food, music and the going to the movies. They have grown up competing on the field together which now carries over to the office, into their one on one real and digital social space.
In today's world, you don't want to be that person in the office that throws like your mom!
